The megaliths of the megalithic site Annaghmare in Armagh County, Ireland show some wonderful stones and groups of stones in the shape of various birds representing the constellation Aquila. Many other stones have faces carved onto them, since the ancients gave stones identities in this manner. Particularly the left stone is quite birdlike, whereas the owl is made up of several stones, and the largest stone, beak in the air, represents the lucida of Aquila, which is Altair. The diamond-shaped capstone of the megalithic site Ballykeel in County Armagh in Ireland represents the shape of Aquila. As a county, Armagh is known as a habitat for bird wildlife, and the name Armagh comes from Gaelic Ard Macha "Macha's Height." |
