astronomical geometry

The figure above shows a number of important things about ancient astronomy.

First we can see that constellations at the cardinal points in 3117 BC do not overlap, even if a constellation is large. This indicates that the constellations were created at this time to "nestle" between the cardinal points (i.e. the Equinoxes and the Solstices). It places the Neolithic megalith builders in England at a date corresponding to the radiocarbon data at important sites such as Carn Brae, a site which marks the Summer Solstice in 3117 BC (-3116 by astronomy) - according to the Heifetz Planisphere.

This explains the division of the southern stars at Norma, Ara and Triangulum Australe (Southern Triangle) in the SE and Apus, Musca and Circinus ("the beam") in the SW. This is why the ancients saw Circinus as a "beam" and Norma as a standard unit.

A line which runs from the Winter Solstice Point on the Ecliptic below the star Enif to the Autumn Equinox Point on the Ecliptic (at ca. the star Antares) in 3117 BC cuts the Southern Stars exactly as in Southern England, with Ara, Norma and all of Triangulum to the left of that line, just as the tumuli, stones and cairns show us. That is why the tumuli in Cornwall start with the stars Circinus, Apus and Musca.

Dividing up the heavens into quadrants by solstice lines and also connecting the four cardinal points by lines gave the ancients a nice tool to measure the heavens by simple linear mathematics.

More interestingly, as already noted, it seems that the cardinal quadrants so created DETERMINED the extent of constellations - since they do not overlap these cardinal lines. And we have retained this system down to the present day.

Lastly, as one can see above, the constellations were not only drawn by design as to position, but also drawn as to scale and angle.
They started at Circinus, "the compass" - whose side - it appears - was set by the ancients equal to the base unit "2" and "Norma" - the Norm - whose length was apparently set at the normal unit "1".

T
he constellations were then apparently created using these units
which are shown in the illustration above.
