Merlin The Face Kents Cavern

Kents Cavern, Torquay, Torbay, Devon, England

visit Kents Cavern
shows a room called THE FACE.
"The Face" must be seen.

We think that this is Merlin's self-portrait in stone.

The Face, as it is called at Kents Cavern, is also a superimposed map of Africa taken from Merlin's voyage as Aesculapius, the legendary physician who accompanied Jason and the Argonauts.

The forehead has a trisquare (two right-angled edges) on it showing the principle of triangulation and marking the stars of Draco, Cepheus and Cassiopeia, stars which can be seen by magnifying a photo of the face and marking the heaviest visible dots and lines on the forehead.

Darker regions around the nose and mouth show the triangulations made as shadows, but these have been difficult to reproduce.

In terms of astronomy, the face and Kents Cavern in the megalithic system both represent the hole in the Milky Way to the left of Canis Major, regarded as the Cosmic Egg by the ancients, i.e. the point of creation for the Milky Way and its stars, a function also served by Kents Cavern for important megaliths in the astronomical system. This hole also has a "foot" shape, used by the ancients on Britain and Ireland for coronation of a King - who stepped into this foot shape as carved into stone to become king. Perhaps the similarly-shaped Egyptian cartouche has some of its royal origins here.

This portion of the Milky Way is also surely the origin of the legends of Cyclops and the Cyclopeans, the one-eyed race of magicians and astronomers, who according to legend built some of the walls in ancient Mycenae. These of course were the Argonauts. The hole at the Milky Way here has only one bright star (rho-Puppis, also known as Turais) but not two bright stars, hence also only ONE eye not two, and THE FACE also looks as if it has only one eye, although closer inspection reveals cupmarks or holes for the ocular locations Dakhla (rho-Puppis) and Tahat (Xi-Puppis, also called Asmidiske or Aspidiske).

Cupmarks viz. holes on THE FACE show how Africa was triangulated, placing the center at BOUAR in what is now the Central African Republic - which amazingly has megaliths at that location spread over 25 kilometers of ground. We discovered the existence of these megaliths only through THE FACE, previously having no knowledge of them. The triangulation made here by the ancients can be examined at the Africa pages on this website.

Interesting also is the use of an octopus to represent Mount Kilimanjaro, which marked the star Canopus (Agastya), the second-brightest star in the heavens after Sirius. The Arabs called Canopus Al Suhail al Yamaniyyah "the Suhail (lucida, brightest star) of the South" and Ya-man-iyyah seems similar to Kili-man-jaro. Significantly, the word Kili-maj-yaro means "landmark" for the caravan-drivers of the Waswahili. For the Egyptians, Canopus meant "Golden Earth" or Kahi Nub, as it marked the horizon of visible stars in Egypt, and an ancient location called Canopus actually existed in Egypt (see http://www.wikipedia.com/wiki/Canopus).

Dakhla (i.e. the star Turais) marked the Tropic of Cancer and the triangulation of stars below Canopus marked the Tropic of Capricorn
