The site Ardmore in County Donegal marks Scorpio in the ancient geodetic astronomical system of Ireland. Additionally, the megalith shows the lower stars of Ophiuchus above it and the stars of Libra to the front of its head. The splitting of the stone is intentional, the middle vertical line markng the ecliptic, with the stars of Scorpio below the line and bottom stars of Ophiuchus above it. The spoon-type mark at the head of Scorpio identifies the Autumn Equinox, dating this megalith to ca. 3117 BC. As learned first from the decipherment of the megaliths of Scotland, cupmarks with many rings around them generally represent EMPTY SPACE, i.e. "vortex" regions of few or no stars. We have numerous such whorls on this megalith, which otherwise shows the stars of Scorpio and in part Ophiuchus. It is a bit of irony that the cupmarked whorls are those erroneously given all the attention by mainstream scientists, and yet these whorls mean literally "emptiness", much like previous megalithic theories. Scorpio is quite prominently represented in Tyrone County (which represents Ophiuchus and Serpens Caput) at the splendid megalithic site of Beaghmore. |
