The megalith Lough Gur at Grange Lios marks the hole at the Milky Way left of Canis Major, which hole is found in ancient planispheres as the location of the cosmic egg of creation. LOGH is Gaelic "lake" hence LOUGH and GUR is most likely Gaelic GUIR meaning "to hatch, lie on eggs" whence Indo-European e.g. Latvian GUL "to lie down" and KUR "to heat". If GUR is GUIR then the name Lough Gur marks the lake or "nest" of the cosmic egg. Limerick perhaps takes its name from LEIM "meadow" and RICK "a heap" so that the hole in the Milky Way could also have been seen as a heap in a meadow. |
