As Barry Fell already observed some time ago, numerous glyphs at Peterborough find comparables in rock drawings throughout the Old World. The shape of the figure for the North Ecliptic Pole is for example directly comparable with what we find at Arbor Low in England for the Neolithic Period ca. 3117 BC, where exactly the same mirror-type figure is used to represent the shape of the figure for the center of heaven - i.e. a circle with an extended leg.

The Ottowa Citizen, June 22, 2000, ran an article entitled "The rock drawings nobody wants to talk about", pointing out that reputed Mayanologist David H. Kelley had viewed the Petroglyphs and had thought that some of the symbols were "European", dating perhaps to ca. 1000 BC. Kelley was right on the European origin of the glyphs, but off by about 2000 years in his time estimate. By our calculations, the oldest of the glyphs date to ca. 3000 BC.

The Native Americans of Canada of course want to claim these rock drawings as theirs, but there is no evidence at all that they had anything to do with this site - and before its chance discovery only about 50 years ago, Native Americans knew nothing about the Peterborough Petroglyphs nor do they have any idea whatsoever what the glyphs mean. There is no Native American tradition of any kind affiliated with them. For lack of anything better, they now call them "The Rocks That Teach". Mysticism abounds in their explanations of the meaning of the site. It is hard to believe that this kind of primitive superstition still flourishes in the 21st century.
